More details:

John Macarthur, a settler and soldier, is recognized as the Father of the Australian wool industry. His introduction of Merino sheep in the late 1700s helped Australia become a global leader in wool production, bringing wealth and stability to the colony. Today, Australia remains one of the largest wool exporters, reflecting Macarthur’s legacy.

Robert Campbell, a Scottish merchant, played a crucial role in opening Australia to international trade. By building Sydney’s first wharf and founding its first shipyards, Campbell helped establish the colony’s commercial viability. As a businessman and politician, he also contributed to early civic infrastructure, including libraries and schools.

Mary Reibey, sentenced to transportation at 14 for stealing a horse dressed as a boy, rose from convict to a successful businesswoman who contributed to Sydney’s architectural growth. Following her husband’s early death, she built an extensive business enterprise while raising seven children. Reibey’s story symbolises the resilience and ambition of many women in shaping Australia's early economy.

Edward Hargraves sparked the 1851 gold rush, transforming the colonies into prosperous societies. His discovery brought waves of immigration and wealth, fuelling Australia’s rapid development.
